Birdfy Feeder Key Features

First, here’s a quick overview of what makes Birdfy feeders unique:

Smart cameras: The main feature that sets Birdfy feeders apart is a smart camera, which automatically captures photos and videos when birds visit. It’s a bit like a dashcam for your bird feeder and lets you see birds up close without disturbing them.

Everything the camera captures is saved in the Birdfy app for you to watch on demand, and you can also get a live view of your feeder at any time. These feeders completely change how you experience birdwatching at home, making sure you never miss a thing!

AI identification: Alongside the camera, Birdfy feeders also use AI to automatically identify the birds that visit the feeder. It’s a really powerful tool capable of recognising over 6,000 different species, so it’s particularly useful for beginners building their bird knowledge and identifying rarer visitors.

Birdfy’s AI is a premium feature, available via subscription or a one-off payment for lifetime access, and we think it’s well worth the extra cost. It’s useful for flagging rarer visitors quickly, giving you a chance to spot them before they fly off, and it also labels clips and images with the species name.

Birdfy Feeder Pros and Cons

Pros

Easy setup: In our experience, the Feeder 2 Duo was quick and easy to set up. We were able to have it up and running within around 20 minutes, and within days had regular visits from the New Forest’s wildlife.

Solar panel keeps cameras charged: Most Birdfy feeders come with a solar panel, which is useful for keeping the camera charged and ready to film without the need for manual recharging.

Real-time alerts: With the Birdfy app, you’ll get instant phone notifications when there’s activity at your feeder. These alerts are great for making sure you don’t miss any rare visitors, without needing to constantly sit and watch the feeder yourself.

AI recognition tool: Arguably the best feature, Birdfy’s AI can identify more than 6,000 bird species. It’s especially useful for new birders looking to learn, but it’s also handy for experienced birdwatchers when rarer birds show up.

Models to suit most budgets: Although they’re a little pricier than standard bird feeders, there are options to suit most budgets. And, by using our exclusive discount code worldwildlife, you’ll get 15% off (even on discounted products!). Check out the full range now!

Cons

Picture quality: Birdfy’s cameras take clear photos and videos that do the job, but in our opinion, a higher-resolution camera would take things to the next level. If you’re looking for the best image quality, the more premium models are the way to go.

Squirrel proofing: Maybe we’re being a little bit picky here, but the feeders aren’t squirrel-proof (but they don’t claim to be either). It’s not a dealbreaker, but if you get squirrels in the garden, you’ll probably catch them eating from the feeder from time to time.

Repetitive notifications: Birdfy’s app notifications are helpful, but over time, we found we were getting alerts for the same regular bird visitors (looking at you, blue tits). Being able to filter out certain species would make a big difference here, but it’s easy enough to simply ignore any notifications you’re not interested in.

Are Birdfy Bird Feeders Worth It? Our Verdict

We tested the Feeder 2 Duo and can confidently say Birdfy feeders are an excellent option for any keen birdwatcher. They’re a great choice for nature lovers and beginner birders who want help building their bird knowledge, while still offering value for experienced birdwatchers who want a closer look at their garden’s birdlife.

Although they’re more expensive than regular feeders, Birdfy’s feeders are still great value for money as they offer something genuinely unique. They add fun and excitement to birdwatching in your own garden, and with the cameras, you’ll never miss out on rare visitors, even if you’re not home!

Within a few days of the feeder being in the garden, birds had already started visiting regularly, and checking the app became part of our daily routine.

Our Recommendation: Birdfy Feeder 2 Duo

If you’re not sure which Birdfy feeder to go for, the Feeder 2 Duo is our top recommendation. It’s currently the only feeder that comes with two cameras, so if you’re looking to get the best possible footage, it’s definitely the top choice.

Having two cameras increases your chances of getting clear shots, and it also improves the AI’s reliability in identifying different species. And, the Birdfy Feeder 2 Duo includes lifetime access to the AI features, so you won’t need to pay extra to get the most out of the feeder.
